Biodiversity
The 15-hectare Parc de Canon is a veritable green lung, home to numerous plant and animal species. In order to preserve the species present on the site as much as possible, we are committed to their conservation.
The birds
Every year, an inventory is carried out in the park’s ornithological reserve by the Norman ornithological group. Some fifty bird species are observed and monitored, including the black woodpecker, kingfisher and window swallow, which nests in the château’s outbuildings every year.
Hollow trees, brush-free areas and trails closed to the public ensure the tranquillity of certain birds.
Bats
6 species of bat have been recorded at Canon. Very discreet, they nest in the attics of buildings. Rhinolophs, barbastelles, great murins, pipistrelles, red and grey eared ducks are all very useful small mammals! The colonies are monitored by the Groupe Mammalogique Normand, with whom a conservation agreement has been signed.
Bat guano is excellent for growing our flowers!
